Peter Pan and Wendy Movie Review

I watched Disney+'s Peter Pan and Wendy during my nephew's nap on Friday and I loved the movie! Alexander Molony, who plays Peter, had the complete mischievous, arrogant, and adventurous spirit of Peter Pan. Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson) was such a rebellious badass in this version. I loved it! I also loved how Tinkerbell (Yara Shahidi), Wendy, and Tiger Lilly (Alyssa Wapanatahk) teamed up to help Peter and each other. Tiger Lilly was the wise and fearless big-sister-like figure to Peter and the lost children. Tink was still impish but she wasn't trying to kill Wendy the whole time (lol 😄). Tink's murderous side 😈 is funny in the book and in the other versions but I'll admit, it was nice to see her and Wendy work together. I know that some are complaining about this change but come on, girl empowerment should be in kids movies. Girls shouldn't be fighting for a boy's attention.

For the record, I adore the 1953 Disney animated film. However, despite what people assume, the 2003 Universal Pictures version's plot and this new Disney+ version's plot were closer to J.M. Barrie's novel. Some cool twists were just added into this Disney+ version as well. It was explained why Captain Hook (Jude Law) really hated Peter. I won't write about all of the twists here because I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone but Hook's origin story was tragic and amazing. I think that I loved these changes so much because as a writer, I enjoy putting unexpected, crazy twists in stories and a re-imagining of Peter Pan is so awesome! The pirate songs were incredible too. The soundtrack was whimsical and epic.

Even though I do ship Peter and Wendy, I'm happy that this version didn't have a romance between Peter and Wendy. In the book, Wendy does have feelings for him, but however, Peter only sees her as a mother figure. In this new movie, they just had a strong friendship and Wendy was protective of him, her brothers, and the lost children. This movie was a fun fantasy for a new generation! I approve!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Smooches and think Tink!💋🧚🏿‍♀️

Yes, I have to agree with you Lena. It was a great, imaginive version of the Peter Pan story. I really enjoyed the movie and I can highly recommend watching it.
