Wonderland Camp (Week of July 6, 2025)

During the week of July 6, I attended Wonderland Camp at the Lake of the Ozarks. The week's theme was Christmas in July, which I loved.

I was in Brown Hall, Cabin B. I saw my old friends: Alyssa (my best friend), Cookie (also my best friend), Megan (I think she deserves a raise for everything that she does), Haley, Kayla, and Hannah. I also made new friends: Saleena (the best med aide that I want in my cabin again in October), Katy (a great person, and another person that I wish to have back in my cabin again as well in October), Victoria (a person who was excellent at her job), Isha (someone who was very energetic about everything), Harper (an awesome cabin leader that I would like to have again too), and Brooke. On Sunday, it rained intermittently throughout the afternoon and evening, but we still had a good time. We ate gooey and delicious s'mores and played games in the new and cool Miller Hall. It was a good time with my friends.

On Monday morning, we rode the boat.

I didn't fall asleep this time, lol, because Alyssa, Cookie, Katy, and I were too busy talking, laughing, looking around at people's condos, and taking selfies. I swear that most people who live or vacation in the Ozarks are rich because those condos are huge lol. Later that day, we had Arts and Crafts and tie-dyed our shirts. My colors were orange, dark green, and blue. While I waited for the others to finish, I raced my wheelchair around the basketball court. It was fun and good practice for my driving skills (spoiler alert: I still suck at driving lol). After that, we made "gingerbread houses" out of Graham crackers and peanut butter. I ended up eating mine within seconds (hey, I was hungry lol). The evening activity was the carnival, which included games, nail-painting, Christmas music, and the sweet aroma of cotton candy in the air. Cookie, Alyssa, other campers, and I played a large version of the board game, Trouble. The big, plastic board was on the ground, and we used a spinner to determine how many spaces we could move.

Then, Alyssa or the campers moved the oversized pieces around the board. It was a great day!

On Tuesday morning, we had music. We drummed along to Christmas songs. Alyssa, Katy, Cookie, and I were singing along loudly, too. What can I say? I love Christmas music! Afterwards, we had archery. Katy helped me aim. The arrows kept bouncing off the targets, and it was so funny lol.

After archery, we climbed the rock wall. I was pulled way up to the top, and I could see the whole camp for a moment from a bird's-eye view.

Later that day, for free time, we made snow with shaving cream and baking powder. I had a blast!

I've always loved the feeling of shaving cream between my fingers. As a kid, playing in shaving cream would've been hours of entertainment, so the "snow" was awesome for me. Little things can still entertain me. In the evening, Santa Claus was coming to Wonderland, but before we saw him, we did other activities first, such as sorting different-sized toys into boxes, face-painting, and making paper Christmas ornaments. Then, we met the jolly ol' elf himself: Santa Claus! I won't lie, when I first saw the guy, I thought he looked like my Uncle Dave lol (when my family sees the picture, they'll see it).

When I rolled into Miller and looked at him, I seriously did a double-take, but when he talked, I knew it wasn't my silly uncle (I love you, Uncle Dave). Each camper talked to Santa, took a picture with him, and got a toy from him. I got a plush panda bear (I'm a sucker for plushies). I named it Amanda, after my sister (hi, Sissy, love you). Santa also liked my Christmas Jack Skellington shirt. It was a good day.

On Wednesday morning, we did a craft, making a mini Christmas tree with sticks and stickers. My goofball and witchy side came out, and I picked out a long stick, using it to point at things and as a pretend staff for most of the morning. Then, we did BB guns. The targets were pictures of the Grinch, which were adorable and hilariously morbid. Alyssa and Katy helped me, and I pulled the trigger, using a stick. I missed my target, but it was fun. After BB guns, we did beam, where a game like Candy Crush is projected onto the floor. People roll and stomp on it to play. Then, we decorated an outside Christmas tree while we listened to Christmas music.

Later that day, we had talent show practice. For the first time in years, Cookie decided to sing a song with me. Right after dinner, Cookie and I quickly picked our costumes for the talent show. I went for the nineties Britney Spears look, and she went for a flowery, summery look. The talent show then began. For our talent, we sang "My Only Wish" by Britney Spears, while Alyssa held the microphone. It was so much fun!

On Thursday morning, we got breakfast in our cabin. It was nice. I didn't have to put on my shoes right away or gulp down my coffee. Then, we had Rec and did something that I call Foam Archery. We shot plush arrows with large slingshots at counselors. It was hilarious. Counselors wore safety masks as they ran, ducked, and fell. They looked like falling cartoon characters lol. Then, we went to the treehouse and bridge. I did the zipline. It felt like I was zooming across the treetops like Peter Pan. It was fun, of course, but it also gave me a jolt lol. It seemed to go faster than I remembered. I had to laugh at myself.

We then made a legitimate and pretty snow globe at Arts and Crafts. Later that day, we finally went to the pool. It was slightly cold, but that felt good after being in the heat. Alyssa, Katy, Cookie, and I were splashing each other. I also moved my legs and went under the water.

Ann and her family came to camp and visit us during that hour, too. We were so happy to see her. After the pool, we showed and got ready for the dance. Megan slicked back my hair with gel. I then wore my gray and black blouse, black pants, and black shoes. Isha also put some purple eyeshadow on me. The dance was in Miller Hall. The music was booming, and the lights were dim. People were dancing, laughing, and eating popcorn. Alyssa, Katy, Cookie, and I danced in a circle. We also danced with some cute guys (I won't name names lol). The night was crazy fun with my friends! I love a Wonderland Camp dance!!

Friday was bittersweet as always. I didn't want to leave my friends, but I was ready to see my parents and my bedroom. People were signing each other's shirts and hugging. I got the Camp Scribe award because I'm a writer, and I was always doodling during rest time all week. I can't wait to go back in October and have more adventures and memories.

Oh, Wonderland, I love.

Smooches and think Tink!
